The Dangers of Black Mold

The Dangers of Black Mold

Black mold is an umbrella term for several species of mold that have a dark green or black appearance. Black molds are frequently found in moist, humid environments like showers, toilets, bath tubs, kitchens, and basements. Exposure to mold spores, which can become airborne, can lead to stuffy noses and coughing as their most mild symptoms, but it can get much worse.

What Are The Symptoms Of Mold Exposure?

As stated above, the most mild symptoms of mold exposure include coughing and a stuffy nose, but for people with underlying conditions such as asthma, mold allergies, and other immune system weakening conditions, symptoms can be much worse. According to a study done by The Mayo Clinic in 1999, all chronic sinus infections diagnosed in 37 million Americans were caused by mold exposure. Mold exposure can also cause asthma attacks, coughing, wheezing, itchy eyes, sore throats, and can even lead to rashes on the skin. At its worst, black mold is believed to be linked to health issues like headaches, memory loss, and pulmonary hemorrhage in infants. If you believe you may be experiencing symptoms from mold exposure, seek help from your doctor or healthcare provider immediately.

Mold Inspections With DCM Environmental

DCM Environmental provides Massachusetts with mold inspections and testing for residents, businesses, and prospective home buyers. Our team will first perform a visual inspection of your home in areas that are at high risk for mold growth, and if found, will test a sample for toxic mold spores. DCM also provides clients with air sampling in homes that are suspected of mold growth, as well as moisture detection in wood and drywall that is at-risk for mold. Our air quality testing procedure is one of the best methods used for detection of hidden mold, and is used to locate and identify the presence of toxic molds, fungi, and pathogenic bacteria. The samples are then sent to an AIHA EMLAP Lab where they are diagnosed. A full comprehensive report is then sent to the client with recommendations for abatement plans and methods if mold was in fact detected.
